Step inside a real-life Christmas movie Nov. 21 to Dec. 24 in Long Grove
This season, Historic Downtown Long Grove — recently featured as the backdrop for a major holiday movie starring Mario Lopez and several other Hollywood productions — once again transforms into a magical winter wonderland with its beloved Vintage Holidays celebration, running Nov. 21 through Dec. 24.
With its colorful old buildings, twinkling covered bridge, and festive community spirit, Long Grove is a place where the holiday season feels like a living movie set, and this year’s festivities offer several ways to bask in the glow:
Light Up Long Grove: A Vintage Holidays Kickoff Event, 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21. The season officially begins with Long Grove’s signature Light Up Long Grove celebration, a picture-perfect night of music, lights and small-town magic.
Schedule of Events on Nov. 21:
• 5-7:30 p.m. Tractor-pulled wagon rides, holiday shopping and dining, illuminated photo stations, and festive street activities as shops stay open late.
• 7:30 p.m. Bridge and Tree Lighting Ceremony led by Village President Bill Jacob, followed by a live performance by the Fred Astaire Dancers and a special appearance by Santa Claus to close the night.
Weekend Carriage Rides, Carolers and Santa Visits: Experience the holidays the old-fashioned way with vintage horse-drawn carriage rides offered every weekend from Saturday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Dec. 21. Glide past the historic covered bridge and beautifully decorated storefronts while bundled under a blanket.
Throughout the Vintage Holidays campaign, roaming carolers fill the streets with classic tunes, and Santa makes special appearances on select weekends for free family photo ops in Covered Bridge Park.
Many merchants and restaurants will feature seasonal menus, hot drinks and Vintage Holidays specials through Christmas Eve.
