Covenant Living residents crochet mats from plastic bags for veterans group
A group of residents at Covenant Living at Windsor Park, a senior living community in Carol Stream, routinely get together to create waterproof sleeping mats out of recycled plastic shopping bags.
The residents have been collecting plastic bags, then as a group they flatten the bags and cut the plastic into strips. The strips are then looped together and crocheted to make the mats — a process that takes many hours to complete.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, a dozen of the mats will be presented to a representative from Violet’s Kitchen, a Carol Stream organization that provides resources to unsheltered veterans.
Covenant Living at Windsor Park is located at 124 Windsor Park Way in Carol Stream.
