House fire in Aurora displaces residents

A fast-moving attic fire displaced residents of an Aurora home early Thursday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded at about 1:49 a.m. to the fire in the 400 block of Grant Place in a neighborhood east of Route 25 and the Fox River.

Police were able to assist two residents and their two dogs from the two-and-a-half story home that had been converted into three units, but officers were unable to check on other units because of heavy smoke, authorities said.

Crews found fire coming from the second floor and attic at the rear of the house.

The home was declared uninhabitable due to smoke, fire and water damage. The American Red Cross and victim services helped the displaced tenants with temporary shelter. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
