Chicago man accused of socking romantic rival, leading high-speed chase jailed in DuPage County

A Chicago man was ordered held in jail to await trial in DuPage County after Oak Brook police said he punched his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the face and then led officers on a high-speed chase.

Ulises Mejia, 26, is charged with felony aggravated fleeing and eluding along with one count of misdemeanor battery and multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses.

According to court records, Mejia is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend outside the woman’s workplace on the 1100 block of West 22nd Street just after 7 p.m.

When Oak Brook police responded to the battery report, Mejia fled in a 2023 Chrysler 300, disobeying traffic signals, speeding and ultimately running head-on into two vehicles at the intersection of Route 83 and 16th Street, authorities said.

After crashing the vehicle, Mejia attempted to flee on foot, but was captured inside a nearby restaurant, court papers show.

No other injuries were reported.

Mejia is due in court again Nov. 24.
