Pedestrian struck by train in Mundelein escapes serious injuries
A pedestrian escaped with only nonlife-threatening injuries after being struck by a freight train Tuesday in Mundelein, authorities said.
According to Mundelein police, officers responded at 11:27 a.m. to the Metra station, 205 N. Archer Ave., on a report of a pedestrian hit by a Canadian National freight train.
Officers arrived to find a 41-year-old woman with nonlife-threatening injuries. She was treated at the scene by the Mundelein Fire Department then taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, police said.
The roadway at the Maple Avenue (Route 176) crossing was shut down for investigation but it was reopened and the train back in service by 12:23 p.m., according to police.
The matter remains under investigation by Mundelein police in coordination with the Canadian National Police Service, officials said.
