Assault on immigrants hurts us all

Mr. Grubnich wants an answer to what he considers a double standard regarding the Chicago mayor and Illinois governor toward illegal immigrants. Most undocumented immigrants are not rapists, murderers, etc. The majority of them come to our country because they are escaping terrible lives with few opportunities.

Our country once was the beacon of opportunities, even though most immigrants who are here illegally have to work at jobs no American citizen will do — working eight or more hours under a hot sun in fields, landscaping or cleaners in nursing homes, etc., at less than minimum wage with no pension or health benefits even though they pay income taxes.

Who will do their work once Trump spends millions of our tax dollars sending them off to either their native country or another poor country where many may end up being mistreated, imprisoned or even killed? How can Trump and his administration claim to be religious when they lack any compassion for not only undocumented immigrants but anyone in our country who is different, poor or not a Republican. Wake up America — by the time Trump’s term ends we American citizens may have to become illegal immigrants in democracies like Canada or a European country in order to escape Trump and his 2025 plan, implementation of which is happening quickly.
