Ramp at I-90, Arlington Heights Road closing Friday

The ramp connecting southbound Arlington Heights Road to westbound I-90 in Arlington Heights is scheduled to close beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and continuing into November, Illinois tollway officials announced Thursday.

A detour will be posted during the closure, which is needed to accommodate the removal of the existing barrier walls and equipment, followed by the installation of new tolling infrastructure.

The detour will take drivers along southbound Arlington Heights Road to Higgins Road and west on I-290 to access westbound I-90. Electronic message signs and construction signage will be in place to alert drivers to the closure and detour.

Construction work will also include ramp pavement and shoulder improvements, as well as electrical, lighting and signage upgrades.

Toll plaza work also is planned this fall on the ramp connecting eastbound I-90 to Arlington Heights Road and work is underway on the ramp connecting northbound Arlington Heights Road to westbound I-90.

In all, the toll plaza improvement work at the Arlington Heights Road interchange is scheduled to continue through 2026, tollway officials said.

The work is part of systemwide project to reduce toll barriers and improve traffic flow.
