American Wind Band puts on ‘Let’s Go to the Fair’ concert
The American Wind Band invites the community to its “Let’s Go to the Fair” Concert on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. It will feature music that celebrates harvest, ceremonial, and religious gatherings.
The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. Admission is free and donations toward the band’s operations are very much appreciated.
The American Wind Band, an adult community band based in Downers Grove, was created to promote and encourage the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance.
The concert will feature two World’s Fair Marches, Alfred Reed’s “A Festival Prelude,” Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s “Carousel,” and Owen Reed’s “La Fiesta Mexicana.”
A special highlight will be Julius Fucik’s “The Old Grumbly Bear” featuring bassoon and baritone saxophone soloists. The esteemed “Grumbly” soloists are Andrew Breig, bassoon, and Andrew Wolfking, baritone saxophone.
Coming up this winter, the band will be performing a free Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 7. It will be at 3 p.m. at the Hinsdale South High School auditorium, 7401 Clarendon Hills Road in Darien.
