Arlington Heights mom appointed to District 21 school board
Angelika Husmann, an Arlington Heights resident and Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School parent, has been appointed to an open seat on the Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 school board.
Husmann was the top choice of the other six school board members, who received a dozen applications for the vacancy and conducted interviews in closed session Oct. 6. She replaces Dagmara Kalinowski, who resigned Sept. 3 to concentrate more on her professional and personal obligations.
Husmann, an entrepreneur and marketing professional, has more than 15 years of experience in strategic planning, brand development and crossfunctional leadership. Her career has included roles at Beam Inc., John B. Sanfilippo & Son, and Boosterize, a marketing consulting firm she co-founded to help startups and small businesses grow.
Husmann has served on the Park Place Towers Condo Association Board in Chicago and been a volunteer with Chicago Cares, where she helped encourage a love of reading among children in transitional housing.
“I believe education is the key to success,” she said in a statement. “Every student deserves access to a high-quality education, and our district has done an outstanding job providing that while maintaining fiscal responsibility. I look forward to contributing to the continued enhancement of educational excellence for all students, while ensuring that their safety, both physical and emotional, remains a foremost priority.”
Husmann, who took her oath of office late last week, will serve the remainder of Kalinowski’s term, which expires after the April 2027 election.
