Prairie Pointe Quilters complete annual project at Huntley church

The Prairie Pointe Quilters at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley placed 105 handmade quilts around the sanctuary for an annual blessing by Pastor Ryan Mackey before they were offered as donations to others all of the world.

“Thank you to all of our quilters who helped make the quilts and to those who donated fabrics and money to support our groups,” said Bev Kenny, coordinator of the Prairie Pointe Quilters.

“We donated three quilts to CASA earlier this year and 10 quilts will be given to Turning Point in Woodstock. The remainder will be given to those in need, including those at Shepherd of the Prairie where we hope they make a difference in comforting someone’s life.”

Kenny welcomes others to become a part of the quilt ministry. “Knowing how to quilt is not a requirement for anyone to join,” she says. We encourage others to learn and enjoy fellowship together. We joyfully would like to see new faces to help us create amazing quilts given to others.”

The group meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 9 a.m. at the church, 10805 Main St. in Huntley. It also welcomes donations of any size of flat sheets to be used for the backing of quilts.

To support the project, SOTP members are generous in filling a “quarter jar” on display at the church with monetary donations to help the quilt ministry. The Prairie Pointe Quilters, as well as the prayer shawl ministry, are always in need of yarn or fabrics for their projects. Donations can be dropped off at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church.
