Girls tennis: Naperville Central edges Naperville North for sectional title; Wheaton Warrenville South adds to excellent season
Naperville Central with 23 points edged Naperville North (22) for the Class 2A Downers Grove South sectional title.
Downers Grove South was third with 18.
The sectional champs got a third-place finish from the doubles team of Grace Kistler-Claire Cameron and a fourth place effort from
Amy Yang-Chaeli Ha. Kaarva Paramesvar was fourth to qualify for the state in singles.
Naperville North's doubles team of Zannah Chien-Makoelyn Woller were second and Anda Elezi qualified
with a third-place finish in singles.
Downers Grove South, third, recorded 1-2 finishes in singles. Gabby David was first and Lily David second.
Downers Grove North, fourth with 14 points, got a first place finish from Olivia Tan and Katherine Wittmer in doubles.
Class 2A York sectional: Wheaton Warrenville South edged York for the sectional crown. The Tigers, defending DuKane Conference and sectional champs, scored 28 points compared to 26 for the hosts.
In doubles, Riley and Reese Lepsi will make their second straight trip to the state finals after winning the sectional. They hope to improve on last season's fifth place finish at state.
Prya Rozanski and Kelsey Clousing finished third to qualify for next week's state tourney.
Anna Ittersagen was third in singles.
"Every player contributed to the sectionals," said coach Patti Clousing. “Players on the court and teammates that cheered did a great job. It is amazing to win back-to-back DuKane and sectional championships. We have amazing talent. We are a dynasty.”
The runner-up Dukes got a first-place effort from CJ Coan in singles and Rosie DeCristofaro was fourth.
"This is CJ's third time she has qualified for the state meet," said coach Kara Dollaske. “I am very happy for her. She is ready for the state competition.”
In doubles, Olivia Allen and Evelyn Kahl were fourth.
Benet was fourth with 24 points. The Redwings were runner-up in singles with Emma Mahlik and Lily Lopatka-Meaghan McCarthy placed second in doubles.
Class 1A Cary-Grove sectional: Marian Central Catholic won the sectional Saturday with 24 points followed by Wheaton Academy with 22.
Wheaton Academy boasted sectional singles champion senior Lizzie Scheidt (20-8). St Francis junior Eva Steffen qualified for the state meet with a fourth-place finish. The Spartans finished third with 12 points.
In doubles, Wheaton Academy's Rachel Hayes and Claudia Kula were second. Cary-Grove's Malaina Kurth-Darby Hennessy will head to the state meet with a fourth-place effort.
Class 1A DeLaSalle sectional: Timothy Christian was fourth with 12 points. The Trojans' Brooklyn Bunn-Annika Leimkull placed fourth and qualified for the state meet.
Lake Park Class 2A sectional: Conant dominated and easily won the sectional with 36 points. Glenbard West was second with 22.
The runner-up Hilltoppers got a second-place effort from Kendall Mehta and in doubles action Ella Gacek and Samantha Smith were third.
Schaumburg and Wheaton North tied for third with 14 points. Wheaton North's Julia Russell-Jelena Krstic was fourth.
Class 2A Lyons sectional: Hinsdale Central dominated with a 1-2 finish in singles and doubles. In singles, Anika Sarai and Julianna Radonjic qualified for the state finals while Lauren Panveno-Sophia Virmani and Sydney Shuster-Aasha Sarai advanced to the doubles state tournament.
"The team played very well," said coach Shawna Zsinko. “We rallied around each other. We are excited to qualify for state."
Hinsdale Central claimed the team title with 32 points while host Lyons was second with 24 points.
Class 2A Rockford Guilford sectional: Huntley claimed the sectional championship with 30 points.
Ella Doughty won the singles championship for the Red Raiders. Ainura Baidylaeva-Guinura Baidylaeva finished first in doubles while Julie Klockner-Gulianna Farraj were fourth.
Hampshire’s Isabella Kowalek took fourth.
Class 2A Metea Valley sectional: Neuqua Valley won the sectional with 25 points followed by Waubonsie Valley (20), and host Metea Valley (17).
West Aurora was seventh with 6 points.
The sectional champs got a first place effort from doubles team Sophia Chiou-Kylie Tran. Jennifer Tang was third in singles.
Waubonsie Valley's Lydia Parranto won the singles title while Chloe Cochran-Devi Rao were second in doubles. Host Metea Valley's Leah Lui-Lily Tang were third and Trisha Shah and Smitha Sathya were fourth in doubles.
West Aurora's Elena Grmusa qualified for the state in singles with a fourth-place finish.
Class 2A St. Charles East sectional: The Saints qualified a singles player and two doubles teams in easily winning their own sectional with 32 points. St. Charles North was a distant second with 17 points followed by Batavia (16), Geneva (12), South Elgin (9) and Elgin and Bartlett (6).
St. Charles East was led by Kelsey Jacob who easily won the singles title. The Saints were 1-2 in doubles with Greta Mazurova-Harper Charlson placing first and the duo of Lea Forsell-Layla Sutaria runner-up. In singles, state qualifiers include Batavia's Claire Anderson (second), South Elgin's Abby Wolf (third) and Elgin's Mae Ursawa (fourth).
Following the two East doubles teams were St. Charles North's Reese Thomas-Abby Weddle (third place) along with fourth-place finisher Chloe Cournaya-Corlett Klein of Geneva.
Class 1A Hinsdale South sectional: The host Hornets won their own sectional with 26 points. Illinois Math and Science Academy was second with 23 followed by Lemont (16).
Addy Filipiak won the singles title while the doubles team of Haley Goins-Teodora Savic claimed top honors.
Aurora Central Catholic was fourth with 12 points and Rosary placed sixth with 8 points.
Nola Hollenbaugh (singles) and Kamryn-Hollubetz (doubles) qualified for state with a fourth-place finish.
Rosary's Maggie Lagman was third in singles play.
