Villa Park woman charged with DUI after head-on crash Wednesday
A Villa Park woman is facing a drunken driving charge in connection with a head-on crash that injured two people.
Karina Alonso, 37, of the 300 block of N. Second Ave., has been charged with felony aggravated DUI, felony failure to report an accident involving personal injuries, and one felony count of driving on a suspended license (fourth to ninth offense), as well as multiple petty driving offenses.
Authorities say Alonso crossed into oncoming traffic on Wednesday, Oct. 15, while driving on Westmore Avenue and struck another car head-on.
Police say Alonso then fled the scene of the crash on foot. She was arrested approximately 10 minutes later, one block away. She was found to have a blood alcohol count of 0.158. Officers found two bottles of tequila inside her vehicle.
Two victims were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alonso is being held in jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30.
