South Elgin hosts An Almost Winter Day and village tree lighting Nov. 22

The village of South Elgin invites the community to kick off the holiday season with An Almost Winter Day and Village Tree Lighting on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. at SEBA Park, 151 S. Water St.

Families can enjoy an afternoon of seasonal activities including s’mores by the bonfire, cookie decorating, holiday craft projects, balloon animals, and the always-popular snowball slingshot.

Kids are encouraged to bring their letters for Santa, who will arrive at 2 p.m. and stay until 4:45 p.m. to meet families and take photos. (Parents, don’t forget your cameras!)

The event also will feature live ice sculpting, a festive tree decorating contest, and concessions available at affordable prices.

At 5 p.m., the celebration continues across the street at Panton Mill Park with the annual village tree lighting, marking the official start of the holiday season in South Elgin.

“This event is a great way for families and neighbors to gather, enjoy fun traditions, and welcome the holidays together,” said Kim Wascher, director of Parks and Recreation.
