‘I love seeing the kids smile’: Trick-or-Treat with Pirate Pete returns to Palatine High School

Palatine High School is preparing to welcome families once again for its annual Trick-or-Treat with Pirate Pete Festival. This year’s event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the school, 1111 N. Rohlwing Road, Palatine.

The festival is open to children ages 10 and younger, who must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is free and costumes are encouraged.

Each year, classrooms are transformed into themed spaces by Palatine High School clubs, organizations, athletic teams, and academic programs. Guests can expect a variety of carnival-style games, candy, and festive decorations throughout the building.

To help families decide which rooms are best for their children, spaces will be clearly labeled as either “scary” or “not scary.”

Principal Tony Medina said the event has become a cornerstone of the Palatine High School tradition. Over the years, the event has offered families a safe, festive way to celebrate Halloween while providing students and staff an opportunity to connect with the broader community.

Students also play a vital role in making the festival possible for the community. Anthony V., now a sophomore, was among the student volunteers who helped set up and run a themed room at last year’s event.

He reflected on the experience last year, saying, “Honestly, I love seeing the kids smile, and I think this is a good addition to the school. You know, having this raises morale.”

The success of the festival is made possible through the support of Palatine High School staff, student volunteers, and the generosity of local businesses, community organizations, and the Palatine High School Pirate Boosters.

Community members who wish to donate candy can contact Administrative Assistant Shannon Szukala at (847) 755-1611 to arrange a drop-off time.
