Batavia police investigate gunshot-like noise

Batavia police say a report of a gunshot being fired Wednesday morning was likely due to a resident trying “to disturb or distract wildlife.”

Police went to the 600 block of Kramer Court at 9:25 a.m. after someone reported hearing a gunshot and a person screaming. Residents in the area said they heard either a gunshot or a firework. The exact location of the noise could not be determined. Nobody was injured.

Because the area is near two schools, police notified school officials to take precautionary measures. There was no direct or immediate threat to the schools.
