Learn how to become a certified Kane County Certified Naturalist

Are you passionate about nature and want to make a positive impact on your community? Discover the Kane County Certified Naturalist program at a free information session on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 7-8 p.m. at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road in St. Charles.

This is a popular nature-education program for adults. During the informational session, you’ll gain insights into the program’s schedule, costs and benefits.

The program includes six core classes, four enriching field trips, and 30 hours of advanced coursework or volunteer work to earn the initial Certified Naturalist certification.

This program provides the opportunity to develop, lead, and participate in conservation initiatives. Volunteering is strongly encouraged for all participants. To maintain certification and further your knowledge and skills, continuing education training courses are offered annually.

The mission of Kane County Certified Naturalists is to build a community of well-informed residents who apply their ecological knowledge and skills to habitat restoration, environmental education and community service.

It is a cooperative program of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, St. Charles Park District, and Geneva Park District.

Registration for the program opens Friday, Nov. 7, at 8 a.m. and closes Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
