Kirk Players theater group honored in Mundelein

A Mundelein community theater group was honored during Monday night’s village board meeting ahead of its 60th anniversary.

Mayor Robin Meier read a proclamation lauding the Kirk Players and then presented a framed copy to the group’s president, Randy Rice. More than a dozen group members joined Meier and Rice at the dais for photos after the presentation, too.

The Kirk Players staged their first play in January 1966. It’s named after the group’s first host venue, the former Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church.

In addition to putting on live theatrical performances, the Kirk Players provide college scholarships to Mundelein High School and Carmel Catholic High School graduates and support local charities.
