Victims ID’d in apparent murder-suicide near naval station

The North Chicago Police Department has released the identities of two deceased individuals who were found fatally shot in a naval housing complex near Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago on Friday, Oct. 10.

The deceased have been identified as North Chicago residents Olivia Lacey, 36, and John Taylor, 39.

The two were found when the North Chicago Police Department and Naval Station Great Lakes Fire Department responded to a reported shooting around 8:08 p.m. Friday in the 2300 block of California Avenue in North Chicago.

According to the Lake County Coroner's Office, both individuals died as a result of a single fatal gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses at the scene told investigators that Taylor was armed with a gun and shot Lacey before shooting himself. North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez confirmed on Tuesday that the incident was a “murder-suicide.”

Lacey was a Military service member; officials draped a United States flag over her body as she was transported from the scene to the coroner’s office.
