Scarecrow building, pumpkin decorating draw families to Autumn Harvest fest

A scarecrow-building contest was among the highlights of the four-hourlong annual Autumn Harvest festival Saturday at North School Park in Arlington Heights.

Kids and adults created dozens of scarecrows, some wearing “traditional” attire including denim and flannel, and others dressed up in various themes such as a Cubs fan and a nurse, lined Eastman Street on the south side of the park.

Free crafts including pumpkin decorating for kids, a hayride, a petting zoo and music also were part of the event. Kettle corn and pizza were just some of the food items available for purchase.
