$20 scratcher purchased in Elgin wins lottery player $2M

A $20 scratch-off lottery ticket purchased in Elgin paid off to the tune of $2 million for one lucky lottery player.

The player, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the $20 Multiplier Madness ticket at Geno’s Fine Wine and Spirits, located at 300 S. McLean Blvd.

The winner scratched the ticket off at home.

“I didn’t know it was real,” the winner said. “I double-checked the ticket, saw the prize amount, but still couldn’t believe it. I want to buy a house and surprise my kids with the little things they’ve always wished for.”

This year, 49 scratch-off tickets worth $1 million or more have been won by Illinois lottery players.

For selling the winning ticket, Geno’s will receive a retailer bonus of $20,000, or 1% of the prize amount.
