Five Week 7 high school football games to watch
St. Charles North (6-0) at Wheaton Warrenville South (4-2)
The North Stars are 6-0 for the first time in school history, and they are in the driver’s seat for the DuKane Conference title. The Tigers are a game back in the race at 3-1 and a dangerous opponent with Owen Yorke at running back, already with 942 rushing yards and 12 TDs. Their defense is coming off a shutout of rival Wheaton North. The North Stars have plenty of talent themselves. Northwestern-bound WR Keaton Reinke has gone over 100 yards in all four conference games including 179 last week.
Rolling Meadows (5-1) at Prospect (5-1)
Along with Hersey, these two 2-0 teams are battling for the top spot in the MSL East. Both these teams are averaging 50 points a game, and both suffered their only loss to Palatine. Mustangs QB Joe Brigham has completed 70% of his passes for 1,071 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for six scores. Prospect QB Jackson Cacini has thrown 17 touchdown passes against just one interception for 1,161 yards at 72% accuracy. First one to 50 wins?
Fremd (6-0) at Barrington (5-1)
The number of unbeatens are dwindling, but there’s another taking the field Friday in Barrington in a battle of 2-0 MSL West teams. Expect fireworks in this one — last year’s final was 56-35 in Fremd’s favor. Vikings QB Johnny O’Brien, already with 18 touchdown passes this year, is a game-time decision after playing through an injury last week.
Stevenson (5-1) at Warren (5-1)
First place in the North Suburban Conference is up for grabs between these two red-hot teams. Stevenson has won five straight after a season-opening loss to Prospect; Warren four straight since its only loss to Maine South. Stevenson is sure to get a heavy dose of Illinois-bound RB Aaron Stewart, already with 1,709 yards and 28 TDs. Stevenson, led by veteran QB Aidan Crawley, beat Warren 16-7 last year and has a weapon in kicker Caden An, who set a school record with a 52-yard FG last week.
York (5-1) at Downers Grove North (5-1)
The Trojans enter off two straight shutouts, but York’s Henry Duda is going to give that defense quite the test Friday night. Duda has run for over 200 yards two straight games, finishing with 216 yards plus 98 more receiving and 3 touchdowns against a strong Hinsdale Central team last week in a 28-18 victory. Kevin Jay scored a pair of touchdowns last week for Downers Grove North against Oak Park-River Forest. The Trojans defeated York last year, 35-16.
