Selective memories invite divisions

Regarding the fuss over Charlie Kirk, it’s not surprising that right-wing sympathizers have latched on to his death to promote the despicable Trump agenda and lash out at “liberals.” They share the same twisted mentality of their blessed leader.

Let’s not call him a conservative. Charles Percy was a conservative. Charlie Kirk was a right-wing extremist. Percy was a decent, respectful, tolerant servant of the people. The current fanatic Republican Party threw out all such moderates years ago because they want unanimity on their plans to tear this country apart.

The right-wingers have a selective memory. Let’s review some facts.

— Chief among them is the attempt to overthrow our government with violence on Jan. 6, 2021. An overthrow had never been attempted in this country. It was proposed and planned in detail by Mr. Trump because he wouldn’t accept his defeat. He recruited militia groups armed to the teeth to attack our Congress. Five defenders were killed.

— The husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi was nearly killed in a bludgeon attack at their home by a Trump fanatic. Did Trump issue any condemnation? Of course not.

— Some months ago a Democratic legislator in Minnesota was gunned down because of her political views.

These people are out to kill and maim those who disagree with them. They’re un-American.

Where were the rallies and outrage over these deaths? There were none by the right-wingers because they were perpetrated by people “on their side.” Killing liberals is OK by them. Political violence has been introduced and promoted by the monster in the White House.

Let’s pray for the return of civility and decency and respect to this country.
