Motorcyclist loses limb in Wadsworth crash with vehicle
A 68-year-old Wadsworth man riding a motorcycle had a limb severed in a crash with a vehicle Friday afternoon in Wadsworth.
Around 1:10 p.m., Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to Route 173 east of Route 41 and found the motorcycle rider had sustained critical injuries. Before their arrival, good Samaritans, using a belt, had applied a tourniquet to a leg of the motorcycle rider, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation shows the Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 173. Meanwhile, a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 38-year-old woman of Muskego, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound on Route 173, authorities said.
The driver of the Nissan made a left turn into Van Patton Woods Forest Preserve, directly in the path of the motorcycle, authorities said.
The motorcycle struck the side of the Nissan, and the rider was thrown off. His left leg was severed during the impact, authorities said.
The motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
