Aurora man sentenced to 25 years in prison for 2023 stabbing

An Aurora man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday for a 2023 stabbing.

Duka M. Smith, 49, of the 400 block of W. Downer Place, agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea for felony armed violence.

Officials from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office say Smith and the victim were at an apartment on Nov. 12, 2023, when they had a disagreement that turned physical, and Smith began stabbing the man with a knife.

The victim was able to exit the apartment, but Smith followed him and found him on the ground in the parking lot.

According to authorities, surveillance cameras caught Smith stabbing the man in the face, head, abdomen, and chest.

The victim was able to stumble away and has since recovered, officials said.

Smith is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and receives credit for 588 days served in the Kane County jail.
