No ‘taking sides’ over tragic death
Sept. 10, 2025, will be one more date that will forever live in infamy in these United States.
I strongly disagree with the Daily Herald editors who felt it was appropriate, and did not question the propriety, to headline the Monday, Sept. 15, Letters to the Editor section with the lead “Taking Sides — On the death of Charlie Kirk.” What were you thinking?
How does one “take sides” on the murder of a human being in that setting. The inhumanity the Daily Herald conveys by expressly stating “taking sides” where many would rather celebrate it, has been evidenced by thousands of crude and horrendous vitriols written on Bluesky, the Democrat’s equivalent of X, Reddit, other social media and elsewhere. The left hates its opposition because its opposition is mainstream America.
The unprecedented outpouring of vigils and memorials worldwide is a testament to the defense of free speech which Charlie unabashedly demonstrated during his Prove Me Wrong events. Participants could often be overly rude and ungracious toward him but he, alone, treated them with courtesy. He was a public figure whose own reflection upon his life was grounded solely by his faith. Let’s return to the civility of the Lincoln/Douglas debates.
I and a multitude of others proclaim, “We are Charlie Kirk.”
