No injuries, pet birds rescued in Aurora house fire
No one was hurt, and two pet birds were rescued Monday from a house fire in Aurora.
Aurora firefighters responded to the 100 block of North Union Street just after 12:30 p.m. Sept. 29 to find heavy smoke coming from the attic and roof of a two-and-a-half-story home. More smoke and flames were visible from the back of the house.
Officials say the fire started near a vent in the kitchen area and extended vertically through the second floor and into the attic.
The home’s sole occupant, a 50-year-old man, had already been evacuated by Aurora police officers, and firefighters rescued the birds while searching the home.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home, which sustained significant damage and was deemed uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
