Palatine to honor firefighters killed in the line of duty
The Palatine Fire Department will host a memorial ceremony Wednesday to honor two firefighters killed in the line of duty nearly 80 years ago.
Wesley Comfort, Jr. and Leonard Nebel were killed Oct. 1, 1946, when a train collided with their fire truck at Brockway Street while they were responding to a house fire.
The service will begin at 9 a.m. with the Honor Guard arrival at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial, at the intersection of Brockway and Slade streets in the village’s downtown.
