Auditions set for Sinfonietta Bel Canto’s annual concerto and voice competitions
Sinfonietta Bel Canto will hold auditions for its third annual Concerto Competition as well as its 12th annual Voice Awards Competition.
The submission deadline for the Concerto Competition will be Friday Dec. 12. The entry fee is $50. The submission deadline for the SBC Voice Finalists Awards competition will be Friday, Jan. 17. The entry is $40. Entrants apply online at sinfoniettabelcanto.org.
The Concerto Competition is for piano, strings, woodwinds and brass. There will be one category for age 13 or in eighth grade, Junior Piano; and three categories for up to age 18, not in college: Senior Piano, Winds/Brass, and Strings/Harp. All categories have a $150 first-place award. All finalists are also eligible for the $100 Audience Favorite Award. Up to two finalists in each category will perform with the Sinfonietta Bel Canto.
The concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at St. Paul’s UCC Church in Downers Grove. Applications must include a video uploaded to YouTube.
The 12th annual Voice competition has performers competing in four categories: Little Stars! (ages 13 or younger); Teen Stars (ages 14-18); Collegiate Artists (ages 18-24); and Emerging Artists (ages 25 or older). The first-place awards in each category starting with the Little Stars! are $50, $100, $150 and $200.
All entrants will be invited to a first-round live audition on Saturday, Feb. 8. An accompanist will be provided; no online/video submissions accepted. Finalists from each category will be chosen to compete in the live concert on Sunday, March 23.
