Aurora police free kitten trapped behind ice machine

When a kitten was found stuck behind an ice machine outside of an Aurora gas station, it was only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

“When Officer Farley called over the air for assistance, none of the responding officers expected to be moving more than 1,000 pounds of ice to help free a trapped kitten,” the Aurora Police Department shared on Facebook Friday.

Officers received the clerk’s permission to unload heavy bags of ice, “carefully shift the machine” and rescue the kitten. While it's unclear when it took place, a picture shows an officer holding the little guy. Icicles could not be seen on its whiskers.

“It was truly a team effort to complete the mission … and while a batch of ice was lost in the process, we're pleased to report no backs were strained,” and the kitten was “unharmed,” read the post, since garnering about a 1,000 “likes.”

The kitten is now in the care of the city’s Animal Care and Control and is looking for a home.

The shelter staff has since named him Cadence (Animal ID A001632). He’s roughly 4 months old and will be available for adoption once his stray hold, neutering, and vaccinations are complete. Cadence and other adoptable or lost pets are featured online at 24petconnect.com, which updates every hour. The shelter is at 600 South River St.
