Carol Stream man faces hate crime charges after painting profane graffiti on police station

A Carol Stream man is facing hate crime charges after spray-painting profane graffiti on the Carol Stream police station and two nearby businesses.

Carol Stream police were called just before 10 p.m. Wednesday about a person spray-painting graffiti on Chrissy's Gaming Bar & Grill at 552 N. Gary Ave.

While responding to the call, an officer saw Joshua Sanchez, 30, painting “(expletive) Israel” and “(expletive) Trump” in large blue letters on the north side of the police station, authorities said.

As Sanchez was arrested, authorities say he attempted to reach into his pocket, where officers then recovered a five-inch silver knife with metal knuckles on the handle.

Authorities say Sanchez also spray-painted “DT = Epstein” and similar messages on Chrissy's Gaming Bar & Grill and on the neighboring 7-Eleven store.

Sanchez faces two felony counts of hate crime and felony criminal damage to government property, as well as several misdemeanor charges.

Sanchez was released from custody under the condition that he does not enter the Carol Stream Police Department, Chrissy’s Gaming Bar & Grill, or the neighboring 7-Eleven. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 20.
