An important omission
Byron York looks at history the way many Christian fundamentalists look at the Bible. He uses it to justify ideas he wishes to propagandize. In order to prop up the obviously anti-constitutional moves of Trump on immigration, he demonizes the Biden Administration for its policies, which he condemns for allowing millions of “illegals” across our borders. Like Mike Johnson saying that he uses the Bible to guide his decision-making process while only referencing passages which fit his world view, York condemns Biden’s record on immigration. He conveniently avoids mentioning the fact that a bi-partisan immigration bill was nixed by Republicans who were told by Trump not to pass it, simply so that he could point to the Democrats’ poor record on immigration and use it in the campaign in 2024, and now to justify thug tactics on the streets on America. This is not surprising, considering the Right’s desire to recast history to fit their world view. I don’t know that the immigration bill would have helped stem the tide of people coming across the border, but I do know that not passing it was a cynical and cowardly move by the party that drapes itself in the American flag and select portions of the Constitution. York knows this, but his seething hatred for anything progressive forces him to view any issue with the blinders of complete prejudice.
