Kane County hosts Fall Shred & More recycling event Sept. 27
Kane County residents are invited to Fall Shred & More Recycling Event on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the Kane County Circuit Clerk’s office at 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.
This community-focused event offers secure document shredding and a variety of recycling opportunities. Details of the event can be found at kanecountyil.gov/Recycling/Pages/recyclingEvents.aspx.
Residents can bring confidential documents for on-site shredding, as well as items for donation or recycling, including clothing, shoes, textiles, books, bikes, home goods, and leftover paint.
Shredding guidelines:
• Service is only for residents; small businesses are not eligible.
• Accepted materials: Confidential papers such as tax records, medical records, bank and credit card statements, or documents containing Social Security or financial account numbers.
• Not accepted: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail without sensitive information, school work, recipes, photographs, CDs, hard drives, binders, plastic sleeves, and other non-paper items.
• Quantity limit: Up to four banker boxes (12x16x10 inches) or equivalent that fits comfortably in a standard passenger vehicle.
• Preparation: Papers should be in sturdy boxes, tubs, crates, or laundry baskets (max 40 lbs.). Remove all metal binder clips, ring clips, hangers, and large plastic items. Staples, paper clips, spiral bindings, manila folders, and envelope windows are allowed.
At the event, there will be four stations set up around the parking lot.
• Station 1 — Helping Hands of Hoffman Estates will be accepting clothing, shoes, textiles, small home goods, and books.
• Station 2 — Hesed House Bicycle Ministry in Aurora will be taking bikes and bike accessories (helmets, locks, lamps, etc.).
• Station 3 — ePaint Recycling in Battle Creek, Michigan, will be accepting latex-based paints and coatings (fees apply: pint/smaller = $1, gallon = $3, two-gallon = $5, five-gallon = $15; paint must be liquid). Dry paint should be disposed of in regular trash. Note: Aerosol/spray paint and oil based paint are not accepted at this event.
• Station 4 — Accurate Document Destruction in Elk Grove Village will be offering secure shredding performed on-site by mobile shredding trucks.
All services are free, except latex paint recycling (Station 3).
