Victim ID’d in fatal weekend crash in Lake Zurich

The victim of a fatal car crash, which occurred over the weekend in Lake Zurich, was identified publicly Monday.

The man, Casimir Ries, 59, of Lake Zurich, was crossing Route 12 at its intersection with Deerpath Road around 12:40 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle, according to a press release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

First responders found Ries unresponsive, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck Ries remained at the scene.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Ries died from blunt force injuries related to the crash, the press release says.
