Man charged with home invasion, fleeing, in Aurora domestic violence case

An Aurora man has been charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police, who were trying to arrest him on domestic violence charges.

Nimai Fernandez-Oropeza, 26, is also charged with home invasion, criminal trespass to a residence, and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery, interfering with a report of domestic battery and criminal damage to property, according to an Aurora Police Department press release.

Police were called at 11:13 p.m. Sept. 15 to a residence on the 900 block of Wood Street. Police say Fernandez-Oropeza hit a woman, and hit a child who intervened.

He then left in a Dodge Durango, police said. Aurora police pursued, but stopped the chase for safety reasons. Another, unspecified, police agency also pursued, but also called it off.

He was arrested about a half-hour later at Andover Lane and Middlebury Drive.

Fernandez-Oropeza also faces traffic citations including speeding, improper passing and disobeying stop signs and traffic signals.

He is being detained pretrial, according to Kane County court records. His next court date is Sept. 26.
