Saturdays in September

It’s that time of September when the action starts to heat up. The Saturdays get busier. Boys and girls golf soon will start postseason play as the days get shorter. Other fall sports will turn up the intensity too.

Here’s a look at what happened Saturday.

Thirty-two teams convened at Buffalo Grove for a tennis invitational won by New Trier, with Stevenson close behind. Hinsdale Central and Glenbrook North tied for fourth, a sure sign of just how tough this tournament was.

Flag football also likes its Saturday tournaments, and the meet at Fremd saw some pretty exciting action, with Carmel winning the title over Wauconda.

Saturday was a big day for West Suburban Silver football, with Glenbard West defeating Downers Grove North by the shores of Lake Ellyn, and Hinsdale Central defeating Lyons Twp. in thrilling fashion.

If you missed Friday night’s football action, we have you covered there too.

In girls volleyball, the Wheaton Classic is annually one of the best tournaments around, and this year’s edition was no different. Benet won the championship match against Downers Grove North.

Weather was an issue at the annual Dundee-Crown invitational, shortened by storms this year. Lake Park and Prairie Ridge tied for the championship there.

Finally, we have scores from around the area in our high school scoreboard. If we didn’t cover it, chances are we have scores here.
