Interfaith leaders from the suburbs and Chicago marched to Naval Station Great Lakes Saturday to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests.

The naval station in North Chicago has been a staging area for ICE’s surge in the Chicago region for several weeks.

Participants included Mano a Mano Family Resource Center in Waukegan.

Marchers prayed for a cease in mass deportations as arrests are mounting in the Chicago area. About 550 people have been detained so far and opponents, including Gov. JB Pritzker, contend the majority have committed no crimes.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said authorities are focusing on violent criminals.
