Waukegan Park District, SWALCO and city of Waukegan partner to host recycling event
The Waukegan Park District, Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and the city of Waukegan are partnering to host the 2025 Community Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Park Maintenance Facility, 2211 Ernie Krueger Circle, Waukegan.
Collected items will be reused, recycled, or donated to local nonprofit organizations. The following items will be accepted, with some exceptions:
• Accessories (backpacks, belts, duffel bags, hats, purses and scarves)
• Batteries (household batteries)
• Bicycles
• Books
• Bulbs
• Canned Food (nonexpired)
• Clothes and Textiles
• Diapers and Wipes
• Electronics
• Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids, and Keys
• Footwear (boots and shoes)
• Linens (bedding, blankets, curtains and towels)
• Musical Instruments
• Plastic Film
• Sports Equipment
• Stuffed and Plush Animals
The Waukegan Park District is committed to being an environmental leader in the community with sound environmental policies, practices, and educational opportunities. Over the years, the Waukegan Park District Board of Commissioners has adopted policies to incorporate principles, practices and procedures focusing on maintaining and improving the quality of the environment.
The Community Recycling Event will be contact-free. Individuals must have all items and/or bags marked in the trunk of their vehicle where staff will collect the items. More information, including a list of accepted items, is available at waukeganparks.org/recycle.
