Elgin man convicted of sexually abusing, assaulting a child

An Elgin man has been found guilty of sexually abusing and assaulting a child.

On Sept. 9, a Kane County jury convicted Juan Pop-Pana, 25, of the 500 block of Enterprise Street, on charges of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child and intimidation. The victim was under the age of 18.

Pop-Pana was accused of abusing the victim multiple times, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

The abuse and intimidation occurred between April 3, 2022, and June 3, 2024, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Pop-Pana is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 30. He faces a minimum of seven years in prison, and must register for life as a sex offender.
