Des Plaines Theatre talent show set for Sept. 21
The lineup is set for a Community Talent Show celebrating the centennial of the Des Plaines Theater at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.
From Zumba dancers and stand-up comedians to traditional Mexican folk dancers and an Elvis impersonator, a variety of talent will take the stage. Funds raised will benefit programs and services offered by First Church of downtown Des Plaines.
“We’re excited that theater owners invited First United Methodist Church to host this Talent Show because of its history and its close proximity with the theater,” said Pastor Hope Chernich of First United Methodist Church, at Graceland and Prairie Avenues.
“Our Church held Easter services at the Des Plaines Theater for many years,” Pastor Chernich said. “This show gives us an opportunity to raise funds for vital downtown services such as affordable daycare at Parents’ Day Out, and Bessie’s Table, a soup kitchen and recipient of the 2008 Governor’s Award.”
Gift basket raffles and an auction are in store for theatergoers. Generous donations come from Des Plaines area restaurants and services such as Giuseppe’s Pizzeria, Via Roma Restaurant, Uncork-Unwind Lounge, Headquarters Aveda Spa and many others. Simply Elegant Boutique in Galena donated a faux chinchilla throw that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Tickets to the show are free, but donations to First Church enable them to continue their ministry and support the community. VIP tickets are available for $20 and must be reserved by calling the church office, at (847) 827-5561.
