Finn McCool’s could open in Wheeling in November

Finn McCool’s Irish Sports Pub and Banquets could open in the Wheeling Town Center complex in early November, a company representative told the village board Monday night.

The restaurant is set to move into a vacant building at 373 W. Dundee Road, just south of a Moretti’s restaurant that opened in March. Both Finn McCool’s and Moretti’s are owned by the same company, Schaumburg-based Ala Carte Entertainment.

Ala Carte’s sole Finn McCool’s is on Algonquin Road in Schaumburg, not far from another Moretti’s.

During Monday’s village board meeting, Ala Carte’s Mark Hoffmann said he hopes the eatery will build Wheeling Town Center’s reputation as a “destination location.”

“I want to bring new options for dining and entertainment there,” Hoffmann said.

Hoffman certainly had the board on his side Monday. Without objections, trustees approved a liquor license and two business-related permits for the new Finn’s.

“I think it’s a welcome addition to Wheeling,” Trustee Mary Papantos said.

Finn McCool’s will occupy most of a roughly 6,600-square-foot building that previously had been home to Mia’s Cantina and a dessert shop called Arctic Spoon. Mia’s closed in April and Arctic Spoon shut down last month.

Ala Carte has a contract to buy the building, documents show. Earlier this year, Ala Carte proposed making $500,000 in improvements before opening a new eatery there.

The village board in June agreed to recommend the Cook County Board approve a property tax break from the county to offset the cost of the building purchase and renovations. That break could reduce the company’s tax burden by about $823,000 over 12 years, officials have said.
