Journey of Hope launches ‘Rise Above’ mental health ministry

Journey of Hope United Methodist Church in Elgin is launching a new session of Rise Above, a ministry dedicated to offering hope and healing for those navigating mental health challenges.

Beginning this fall, the ministry will host a series of support groups designed to provide encouragement, connection, and practical tools for life’s difficult seasons.

It will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays at Journey of Hope United Methodist Church, 37W040 Highland Ave. in Elgin. The 12-week session runs through Nov. 24, with a one-time registration fee of $15.

Rise Above offers four group experiences:

• Grief Support — for those processing loss (a loved one, relationship, or any other loss)

• Caregiver Support — for those walking alongside family or friends in need of care

• Transitioning to Retirement — for those adjusting to new rhythms of life after career

• Anxiety/Depression Support — for those managing ongoing mental health challenges

Participants are invited into a safe and compassionate community where they can share openly, listen deeply, and discover renewed strength through faith and fellowship.

“Rise Above is about reminding people that they don’t have to walk through their struggles alone,” said Rev. Jarrod Severing, lead pastor at Journey of Hope. “We believe God’s grace meets us in our hardest places, and through supportive relationships, we can take steps toward healing and hope.”
