Hoffman Estates to hold fire station open houses Oct. 4, 11

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department is kicking off Fire Prevention Month by hosting a pair of fire station open houses in October.

The open houses will run from 1-4 p.m. on both Saturday, Oct. 4 at Firehouse 23 at 1300 Westbury Drive and on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Firehouse 24 at 5775 Beacon Pointe Drive in the village.

The department is inviting residents to help raise fire prevention awareness and create a safer community by joining its staff for station tours, fire sprinkler demonstrations, vendor booths and to practice hands-on skills with a CPR station and fire extinguisher use with a live fire simulator.

Activities for children include sliding down the fire pole, touch-a-truck and a firefighter obstacle course. Sparky the Fire Dog will be there, and the Air Methods aeromedical helicopter is scheduled to land next to Firehouse 24 on Oct. 11.
