Dundee Lions serve community with charity events

The Dundee Township Lions are busy this week doing service and fundraising projects. Free vision and hearing screening were completed at state Sen. Don DeWitte’s health fair at the Rakow Center in Carpentersville.

This week, the Lions have started several fundraising projects for local charities. First is a Mums Sale with Lion Gregg Schuring taking orders. Second is the Lions 5K this Saturday at 8 a.m. during the Heritage Fest, as well as the community breakfast at 8 a.m. Sunday. This is at the big tent behind the Village Squire in West Dundee.

The Lions are the largest service organization in the world and one of the first organizations to respond to national disasters. The club raises money for many local charities, such as the local food pantries, PADS, and the Community Crisis Center, as well as eyeglasses for students in need at Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300 schools.

If you have time to volunteer or are interested in finding out about the Lions, call Jim McClung at (847) 567-7127. More information about the events can also be found on dundeelions.org or the club’s Facebook page.
