Wrong focus for gun ban
As a transplant to Illinois from Minnesota, I was sickened to read of the shooting of elementary-aged children at their school. This has become so commonplace in our gun-crazed society, it’s like just another news day.
However, I found it appalling that a reader felt it appropriate to identify the shooter as trans, as though that was the factor that made this individual a killer. In a following story, I read that the DOJ is looking at a ban on trans folk owning guns.
This is the height of hypocrisy. It would be most interesting to create a chart of mass shooters with a column for trans individuals and one for white cisgender males under 40. I think the results would be few in the first and hundreds in the second.
It seems we are looking at the wrong population to ban from owning guns. It will also be interesting to see where the NRA comes down on this as they seem to feel no one should be denied a gun of any kind.
