Former councilman is best choice for vacancy
Because of Allison Longenbaugh’s resignation from Naperville City Council, the remaining members of the City Council will soon meet in a closed door, unrecorded meeting to choose a new council member from names put forward by others.
I am writing an endorsement for former Councilwoman Jennifer Bruzan Taylor to fill this vacancy. As a life-long resident of Naperville, Ms. Taylor has a deep love for the city. Taylor not only has the professional qualifications to be an excellent councilwoman, but she is also rearing her family in Naperville. Jennifer literally sees daily the impact of city governance has on local families. During her term on the City Council, Jennifer stood as a non-partisan member and her actions were influenced only by what she truly believed would be good for the city of Naperville.
Jennifer is qualified to fill the council vacancy for many reasons. She is an attorney by profession and has the ability to see a challenge from multiple angles. This in turn enables her to make difficult decisions that are both informed as well as nuanced. During Jennifer’s previous tenure on the Naperville City Council, she helped to formulate, analyze and implement four budgets. Placing Jennifer in the vacant seat will bring needed experience and wisdom to a recently elected council.
Finally, I must add that placing Jennifer in the Council vacancy is also a reflection of the democratic process. She placed fifth in the recent election, signifying that a large number of Naperville citizens both know and approve of Jennifer. I, personally am much more comfortable with a replacement of someone I know as opposed to a completely unknown variable.
I am honored to endorse Jennifer Bruzan Taylor for the Naperville City Council.
