Depravity on display

Every day the Trump administration or he personally says or does something that makes one wonder how morally corrupt has he and the administration become? Each day a new low will be achieved only to be surpassed the next day by even a lower low.

Consider the following. Trump continues to lie about the 2020 election. He won and Biden lost, he says, irrespective of the facts and reality. He has ordered the DOJ to investigate the House and Senate members of the impeachment committees as well as the members of the Jan. 6 committee for possible criminal prosecution.

There are unrelenting attacks on universities, law firms, corporations, public radio, news organizations and immigrants who are here legally. He violates court orders to rectify these illegal acts. He deploys the military into U.S. cities to deal with crime and unrest — which the cities are capable of dealing with themselves. If he does not like a number, he fires the messenger as in the case of the Department of Labor.

The State Department cut off funds to USAID and allowed 500 metric tons of food to expire and then burned it rather than distribute it in a timely manner to starving children and adults.

Trump asked the governor of Texas to undertake a redoing of the congressional districts, so he has an advantage in the 2026 House election. If the Republican polices are so popular in Texas, why the need to redraw the map?

Recently Trump set his sights on national museums, suggesting there was “too much focus on how bad slavery was.” Individuals seeking U.S. citizenship now must demonstrate “good moral character” a standard he clearly could not meet. What about Putin or Epstein? The list is endless.

It has been almost 10 years since he announced his intention to run for president. Who would have thought our democracy and way of life would be in peril. But that is exactly where we are today. Do not let despair rob us of hope. Vote.
