Church must stand up and care for all

As a congregation seeking to faithfully follow Jesus Christ, we, Church of the Cross (PCUSA), are disturbed by actions taken by the current administration of our country in the last months which are directly opposed to our mission to “Welcome All, Share God’s love, Offer hope … All in Jesus’ Name.” We feel compelled to speak out and have written a CREDO (a ‘this we believe’ statement) to publicly share our allegiance to God’s imperative to care for and welcome all people.

We, Church of the Cross PC (USA), believe in the Holy God, embodied as God the Creator, God our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God the Holy Spirit who moves in and through us.

We believe the fullness of Scripture commands us to model Jesus’ message of love, forgiveness, reconciliation and justice.

We believe in honoring the dignity and full inclusion of all people, especially those marginalized by society, for all are made in the image of the Holy God.

We believe Church of the Cross PC (USA) has a sacred responsibility to speak and act boldly, to faithfully support, defend and protect all people and to oppose any authority, system, or action which denies God-given rights because all people are worthy of love and freedom from persecution.

We believe we are called to use our resources to educate, feed, clothe, shelter, comfort and pray for those in need.

We believe the Holy God continues to reveal God’s self throughout the unfolding of history and this Credo reflects how we, at this time and in this place, are discerning God’s will.
