Award-winning Chicago restaurant avec coming to the suburbs

One of Chicago’s most noted restaurants — avec — is opening its first suburban location this spring.

The restaurant, part of One Off Hospitality, will open at 250 Waukegan Ave. in Highwood.

This will be the third location for avec, which opened in the West Loop in 2003 and expanded to River North in 2021.

“After years of building our presence across Chicago’s neighborhoods, we are thrilled to continue our expansion into the suburbs with the opening of avec Highwood,” Donnie Madia, a partner at One Off Hospitality, said in a statement.

The menu is described as “rustic,” with a focus on Mediterranean and Midwestern-inspired shared plates.

The restaurant won Jean Banchet’s Restaurant of the Year Award in January and was included in Season 2 of FX’s series “The Bear.”

Construction is expected to begin in November with completion targeted for April. The space will be nearly 5,000 square feet.
