Fenton, Glenbard South, West Chicago, Metea Valley, Montini among weekend winners
Fenton evened its record at 1-1 with an 18-13 Upstate Eight Conference crossover victory over Streamwood on Friday night at Millennium Stadium.
Senior tailback Omar Diaz, who topped the 100-yard mark, put the game out of reach with his 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Bison, who finished with 192 yards on the ground.
Streamwood junior quarterback Aden Sanchez connected senior Jesse Sanchez on a 17-yard touchdown pass in the final minute. Earlier, the pair teamed up for a 55-yard scoring strike.
Defensively, the Sabres were led by DJ Morris (9½ tackles) and Armani Pierce (forced fumble).
Glenbard South 47, East Aurora 0:
Glenbard South (1-1) bounced back from its season-opening loss to Wheaton Warrenville South in a big way, cruising to a 47-0 win against Upstate Eight Conference crossover foe East Aurora in Aurora.
Sophomore tailback Elijah Donahue opened the scoring for the Raiders with a 37-yard touchdown run on their first possession.
Defensive back Dylan Taylor’s fumble recovery helped set up another Raiders score, as quarterback Tommy Bauman connected with Isaiah Gray Jr. on a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Bauman also tossed a 40-yard TD pass to Donahue, while Jonny Baldauf later added a special-teams score on a 43-yard punt return for a TD.
Grand Rapids Christian 28, Wheaton Academy 21:
Colton Miller threw a pair of touchdown passes during Wheaton Academy’s 28-21 loss to Grand Rapids Christian (Mich.) in West Chicago.
Miller connected with Logan Oros on a 13-yard scoring strike in the third quarter to close the Eagles’ lead to 20-14.
Tailback Tyler Jones led the Warriors with 136 yards rushing on 13 carries, while adding 5½ tackles on defense. Oros, who caught 3 passes for 26 yards and a TD, collected a team-high 9½ tackles from his linebacker spot. Danny Ciszek added 6 tackles for the Warriors (0-2).
West Chicago 64, Joliet Central 33:
Senior quarterback Carter Naranjo accounted for 5 touchdowns — 4 rushing and 1 passing — as West Chicago improved to 2-0 with a 64-33 home victory over nonconference foe Joliet Central.
Naranjo carried the ball 15 times for 231 yards, contributing a big part of the Wildcats’ 468-yard rushing performance. He also connected with receiver Jonathan Ocampo for a 46-yard touchdown pass.
Junior Liam Ziberski added 89 yards rushing on 7 carries with a pair of touchdowns, while senior Adriano Rivera had 61 yards on 8 carries and a pair of TDs.
Defensively, Romon Zolota paced the Wildcats with 10 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss, and a sack, while Trevor Sweeney added 8 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, and a sack.
Metea Valley 48, Plainfield Central 7:
Quarterback Charles Larson ran for 3 touchdowns and threw for another, while the defense turned in another solid performance during Metea Valley’s 48-7 nonconference victory over Plainfield Central (1-1).
Larson scored on TD runs covering 8, 9, and 8 yards, while sophomore tailback Noah Douglas added a 7-yard TD run, as the Mustangs captured their second consecutive win.
Metea Valley led 34-0 at halftime.
Montini 35, Hillcrest 12:
Montini improved to 2-0 with its 35-12 nonconference victory over Hillcrest in Country Club Hills.
Junior quarterback Israel Abrams fueled the Broncos’ offense, finishing 13 of 22 for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns, while adding a pair of rushing touchdowns.
Receiver Damacio Ortegon had 3 receptions for 119 yards, including a 60-yard TD, while Luca Florio caught TD passes covering 63 and 30 yards, respectively.
Isaac Alexander rushed for 70 yards on 8 carries with 4 receptions out of the backfield, while Charles Flowers added 8 carries for 77 yards for the visitors.
Defensively, Santino Tenuta turned in his second strong effort with 14 tackles, while Laddie Asay posted 9 tackles, 3 for loss, a focused fumble and interception. Ben Evenson, Orlando Greco, Brody Boyer and Andrew Sparkle each recorded 9 tackles.
Johnny Louise blocked a punt and recovered a fumble for the defending Class 3A champion.
York 35, Plainfield North 3:
Henry Duda had 2 receptions for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while adding a 57-yard touchdown run, lifting York (1-1) to a 35-3 nonconference win over Plainfield North (0-2) in Elmhurst.
Quarterback Dominic Alfano (168 passing yards) added a 47-yard touchdown run and connected with Duda on a 52-yard screen pass for a TD. The Dukes amassed 410 yards of total offense.
IC Catholic Prep 40, Woodstock North 13:
The Knights (2-0) passed for 402 yards and 4 touchdowns, part of their 500-plus yard offensive assault, during their 40-13 nonconference win over Woodstock North.
Junior quarterback Nate Lang completed 14 of 18 passes for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns, while sophomore Alex Mitchell finished 6 of 7 for 100 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Will Schmidt led the Knights with 5 receptions for 144 yards.
Quai McGee (4 catches, 76 yards), Jaden Penna (3 catches, 71 yards), Tamarion Garner (2 catches, 19 yards), and Grant Bowen (4 catches, 51 yards) each had touchdown receptions, while Foley Calcagno (11 tackles) and Romeo Woods (10 tackles) anchored the defense.
Calcagno added a rushing TD for the Knights.
Aurora Central Catholic 26, Christ the King 20:
Trey Seifrid scored on a 54-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter to help lead Aurora Central Catholic (2-0) to a 26-20 victory over Christ the King (0-2) in Aurora.
Quarterback Grant Bohr connected with Brodie Curry on an 11-yard touchdown pass to get the Chargers on the scoreboard at the 9:07 mark of the opening quarter.
Christ the King made it a one-possession game with a touchdown run in the final two minutes. Freshman quarterback Zylin Lewis completed 9 of 19 passes for 170 yards and a TD for the visitors.
Aurora Christian 52, Chicago Crane 0:
Aurora Christian improved to 2-0 with a 51-0 nonconference triumph over Chicago Crane in Aurora.
The Eagles soared to a 43-0 halftime advantage behind senior quarterback Asa Johnson, who tossed touchdown passes to Nolan Robertson, Zach Zappia and Cole McCall.
McCall added a 10-yard touchdown run, while sophomore tailback Jalen Callaway later scored on a 38-yard TD run for the Eagles, who have outscored their first two opponents by a 102-22 margin.
St. Edward 16, Walther Christian 13:
St. Edward (1-1) snapped a 19-game losing streak with its 16-13 nonconference victory over host Walther Christian.
