Elgin to host Patriot Day remembrance ceremony Sept. 6
The city of Elgin will hold its annual Patriot Day remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, on the west-side steps of city hall at 150 Dexter Court. The ceremony honors the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The program will feature remarks from Elgin Mayor David Kaptain, Fire Chief Robert Cagann, Police Commander Heather Lencioni and American Legion Post 57 Commander Dennis Beach.
Police Chaplain Al Keating will deliver the opening prayer, and Fire Chaplain Ed Hunter will offer the closing prayer.
Elgin Fire Department and Police Department honor guards will post and retire the colors during the ceremony.
The community is invited to attend and join in remembering and reflecting on the events of Sept. 11. The Patriot Day ceremony will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube and Facebook pages for those who are unable to attend.
If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way.
